blue and white tiles

More Oakland tiled buildings.  This one is on San Pablo Avenue at about 59th St.

  1. Where on San Pablo is that? It's interesting tile work, but it's also interesting brick work on the building on the right.

  2. Oakland was so lucky to have missed the "tear down the old" phase of the 50s and 60s. You have such wonderful buildings - and so much gorgeous tile because of it.

  3. I am reminded of a trip to Savannah forty years ago. Our tour guide told us that the reason the city was then so beautiful and historic was that it had sunk so low that it wasn't worth anyone's money to tear it down in the 50s and 60s. I wonder if Oakland benefitted from the same economic calculus.
