ABC Wednesday: N is for neon at night

The Broadway __tel looks like it was built in the late 60s or early 70s.  It's a well maintained property but I would hate to have the room looking out on that L.  Like most neon signs around town, it's not quite in complete working order.  I wonder if it's expensive to repair neon or just low on the priority list?  For more N photos, visit ABC Wednesday.

  1. Maybe they have just switched to the tel-ecom business?
Faulty neon signs seems to be a world-wide problem.

  2. did I tell you before? When I was in canada as a foreign student, I went with my friends around, and saw the VACANY signs, I thought they had job vacanies.

  4. from all the neon signs out, it must be expensive and/or difficult to replace

  5. If malfunctioning things aren't repaired or replaced immediately they soon cease to be noticed.

  6. There was once a TV show called "HOT__L Baltimore" -- it didn't last very long, but I think of it every time I see a sign like this one.
Well, if we're ever in Oakland, we'll know the place is maintained better than its sign implies. ;~)

  7. You're right - a room with that light coming in would be hard to bear! Nifty shot!

  8. The Hotel may be well maintained but if the signs are out I would probably pass it by. Who knows what else isn't working. Neon in my window...I vote no!

  11. Or maybe it's the No Tel(l) Motel. Very cool shot. You keep making me think Oakland architecture got frozen 40 years ago.
